The power of interns – pick yours here

            In its second year, the Chamber’s Talent and Education Network is in the final stages of placing interns with local companies for the summer. The TEN initiative is taking advantage of the talent at our local colleges and universities to help companies build stronger employee pipelines for future growth.

            Companies participating this year include Pep Boys, Lincoln Financial Group, Allied Wire & Cable, Cintas, Medecision and Safeguard Scientifics. The program’s top sponsors, Vertex Inc., U.S. Liability Insurance Group, Vanguard, Enterprise, Alliance Global Services, Gregory FCA, State Farm and LiquidHub are committed to helping more companies take better advantage of our region’s talent assets.

            And now other Chamber-member companies are being invited to participate by hiring their own TEN summer intern. As we interviewed potential interns to be placed in our upcoming summer program, we met far more strong students than we have slots. You will find a description of the students here. While some may have landed internships in recent weeks, many of these candidates remain available.

            Please note that companies must pay interns to participate in TEN. We see interns making $10 to $20 per hour, depending on skills and experience.

            TEN’s interns will participate in a training program on professional presence, communications styles and receiving feedback.

            As we move into the summer months, our focus moves from placing interns to laying the groundwork for a new push to help address our region’s technology skills shortage. It’s not just technology companies that find it hard to hire the right tech talent. Every business needs tech-skilled workers and there just aren’t enough to go around. As we finish placing our interns for this summer, and I hope your company can take one, we are looking for the best ideas to help meet those needs.
