The power of volunteers - October at the Chamber

Posted by: Bernie Dagenais on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 2:00:00 pm

In my five years as CEO, I have not seen so many volunteers doing so much important work to help strengthen our organization.

Our board members volunteer their time to provide guidance and oversight to staff. Our committees are powered by volunteers and one of our key groups, the Ambassadors Committee, is the largest we have seen it in years. A spectacular committee helped knock our Foundation’s Giant Main Line Run fundraiser out of the park in September.

Our volunteer-run Cross Industry Groups regularly bring people together to provide support, advice and referrals. One CIG put on a spectacular event at the Main Line Art Center this week that featured food and drink donated by Chamber member restaurants and caterers.

There is no example more powerful, however, than the fact that some 55 volunteers have each committed to bringing in new members during as part of the October “Ignite the Main Line” membership campaign. Most are already on committees, so they know how the Chamber works and they are committed to extending opportunities to some of their business contacts. The members they bring in will add to the already impressive degree of energy around your Chamber.

You will find these volunteers listed on page 16 of this newsletter. During a recent campaign kickoff, they talked about what they have gained through their membership – strong business relationships, access to government and other business leaders, and knowledge that helped enhance their success. A significant number of our volunteers credit the Chamber with helping them to gain clients, contracts and growing their business in other ways. We can’t thank these volunteers enough for giving back.

If you see a name on the list that you know, please help them bring the opportunity that comes with membership to one of your contacts.
