WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP AWARD

Andrea Gilbert, President of Bryn Mawr Hospital, has won the 2009 Helena Devereux Women in Leadership Award given by The Main Line Chamber of Commerce and The Devereux Foundation!

Gilbert is the first recipient of the new award that honors an outstanding businesswoman from the Main Line region of Philadelphia.

At an announcement reception held on April 30th at Margaret Kuo’s Restaurant in Wayne, Main Line Chamber President & CEO, Stan Schuck warmly welcomed the 40-plus attendees and Bob Kreider, President of Devereux gave guests background about the organization’s foundress and the award’s namesake – Helena Devereux, then introduced Andrea (Andi) Gilbert.

At the podium, Andi noted, “I am incredibly honored to represent Bryn Mawr Hospital as the first recipient of this award. There are many dedicated, inspiring and talented women who deserve to be recognized for the leadership and energy they bring to our wonderful community—and I look forward to sharing this honor with them in years to come.”

Andi was chosen from a select group of senior-level executive women who have achieved exemplary professional and personal accomplishments and have significantly, ethically and memorably impacted the Greater Main Line area. The award is named in honor of Philadelphia school teacher, Helena Devereux, who, in 1912, founded the Devereux Foundation in Devon, Pennsylvania.  The organization’s purpose was to offer education, vocational training and skills development to children with special needs.  Ninety-seven years later, Devereux has grown to be one of the nation’s largest nonprofit providers of behavioral healthcare, serving more than 15,000 individuals annually at 15 centers in 11 states.

At a celebratory luncheon being held on September 15th, 2009 Andi Gilbert will be recognized for her achievements and receive the custom designed Gold Leaf Award.

Biography for Andrea Gilbert
Andrea Gilbert joined Main Line Health in June of 2000 as the Senior Vice President, Bryn Mawr Hospital.  She was named President of Bryn Mawr Hospital in 2002.  In this role, she has overall responsibility for the hospital, including day-to-day operations, safety and quality outcomes, strategic planning, clinical program development, physician and staff recruitment, fundraising and financial performance. 

Ms. Gilbert has more than 25 years experience in healthcare and hospital administration including positions with the Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HHS) in Washington, DC; the Inova Health System in Falls Church, VA, and the Allegheny and Tenet Systems in Philadelphia.  Before joining Bryn Mawr Hospital, Ms. Gilbert was the Chief Executive Officer of City Avenue Hospital in Philadelphia. 

Ms Gilbert’s experience includes the planning and development of a women’s hospital, implementation of a Level I trauma center, significant fundraising success, a major hospital expansion and achieving #1 employer of choice in the Delaware Valley and Top 100 hospital in the country status at Bryn Mawr Hospital in 2008. 

Ms. Gilbert is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI, and holds a Masters Degree in Health Administration and Planning from Johns Hopkins University. 

She and her husband, Bruce, have three daughters.  They have lived in Penn Valley, Lower Merion, PA since 1985.

Take the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) West. Follow I-76 to Route 202 South. Take Route 202 South to the Great Valley/Route 29 North Exit. At the end of the ramp, proceed through the light onto Liberty Blvd. The Hotel will be on the right.

From South Jersey:
Take I-95 South to Route 322 West. Take 322 West to U.S. Route 1 South to Route 202 North. Take Route 202 North to the Great Valley/Route 29 North Exit. At the end of the ramp, turn right onto Matthews Road. Turn right at next light onto 29 North. Turn right at second light onto Liberty Blvd. The Hotel will be on the left.

From Philadelphia Airport:
Take I-95 South to I-476 North. Follow I-476 North to the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) West to Route 202 South. Take Route 202 South to the Route 29 North Exit. At the end of the ramp, proceed through the light onto Liberty Blvd. The Hotel will be on the right.

From Wilmington and Points South (Delaware and Maryland):
Take I-95 North to Route 202 North. Follow Route 202 North to the Great Valley/Route 29 North Exit. At the end of the ramp, turn right onto Matthews Road. Turn right at next light onto 29 North. Turn right at second light onto Liberty Blvd. The Hotel will be on the left.

From New York and Points North:
Take the New Jersey Turnpike South to Exit 6, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Extension. Follow the Turnpike West to Exit 326, Valley Forge. Take Route 202 South to the Great Valley/Route 29 North Exit. At the end of the ramp, proceed through the light onto Liberty Blvd. The Hotel will be on the right.

From Harrisburg and Points West:
Take the PA Turnpike East to Exit 326, Valley Forge. Take Route 202 South to the Great Valley/Route 29 North Exit. At the end of the ramp, proceed through the light onto Liberty Blvd. The Hotel will be on the right.
