Job Description:

The Development Manager, working in partnership with the Executive Director, is directly responsible for managing The Clinic’s annual giving program, the gift acknowledgement program, and the communications program, including content and creative for social media.  The Development Manager will provide writing support for the Executive Director for the major gifts program, as needed.  The Development Manager also supervises and trains volunteers who assist with the office functions of the development program.

These duties are to be performed to ensure that the execution of The Clinic’s mission to “provide quality health care to the uninsured in an atmosphere which fosters dignity and respect for our patients.  It is our privilege to do so,” remains at the forefront.

Although the Development Manager must work independently to fulfill the responsibilities, he/she must also work collaboratively, in a teamwork spirit, with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and the Clinic staff and volunteer teams.

Major Responsibilities:

Annual Giving & Gift Acknowledgement Programs:

  1. Sustain and grow the annual giving program, including direct mail, tribute/memorial gifts, special appeals and individual solicitations. Upgrade annual donors, source new donors, prepare copy and mailings. Annual donors include individuals, corporations, public foundations, civic groups and faith based organizations within the $500-$10,000 gift range;
  2. Steward annual donors with targeted and creative acknowledgement and recognition;
  3. Initiate a giving society for major cumulative and annual fund donors;
  4. Develop and manage the Annual giving program revenue and expenses; provide monthly reports to meet goals;
  5. Manage the United Way campaign including on-site presentations and donor relations; grow the United Way donor base;
  6. Manage corporate matched giving donors; increase awareness of matched gift potential; steward donors; grow the donor base
  7. Manage the acknowledgement program for all donors; ensure donors are thanked in a timely and appropriate manner; write annual and special thank you letters; conduct or organize follow-up visits, prepare stewardship reports/letters and manage contacts by Board of Directors and staff;
  8. Maintain the donor base; enter gifts, update records including actions, giving history and contacts; ensure accurate records and solicitations; prepare donor and/or financial reports
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Communications Program:

  1. Create and implement a quarterly e-newsletter and Annual Report
  2. Develop multi-purpose materials for community outreach and solicitations
  3. Manage the Clinic’s website and social media platforms, including writing content and providing patient and volunteer stories
  4. Lead role in any third party fundraising and community events; assist with scheduling and ensure staff, volunteers and Directors are aware and involved, advance the mission of The Clinic;
  5. Represent The Clinic at community events and other engagement opportunities as needed
  6. Manage the on-line giving platform; messaging and creative


Specific Requirements:

  1. Work with Board’s Development Committee to develop strategies to meet yearly fundraising goals. Assist the Development Committee with regular prospect research.
  2. Attend all Board and Development Committee meetings
  3. Stay current and engaged in best practices for programs; provide the Executive Director and Development Committee with new strategies or professional information of interest and value;
  4. Develop fundraising training for board and other volunteers as needed.



  • Commitment to and passion for the mission of The Clinic
  • Bachelor Degree from college or university
  • Knowledge of the development field in non-profit organizations
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional fundraising or related field experience
  • Strong MS Office skills including experience with database systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills (writing sample required)
-          Flexibility to attend meetings and/or events in the evening or morning
-          Comfortable with public speaking and/or group presentations

Must be able to drive and have personal automobile and valid insurance.
