Leadership and the value of connection

Leadership – Legacy – Connection. Those are the words we use to describe the value proposition of the Chamber’s Leadership Main Line program. As we open the recruitment for the Class of 2014, LML’s relevance and vitality has never been greater.

A steering committee under the leadership of Lower Merion Police Superintendent Mike McGrath strives to improve the program annually and Lissa Hilsee, entering her third year as facilitator, is inexhaustible in her determination to make the program spectacular for all participants – regardless of whether they are seasoned leaders or being cultivated for promotion. The feedback surveys from participants have been outstanding.

Founded in 2003 with support and ongoing participation from The Addis Group – risk management consultants and insurance brokers – the program benefited in 2013 from the additional support and guidance of Citizens Bank, Rosemont College’s Institute for Ethical Leadership and Social Responsibility and the WeiserMazars accounting and consulting firm.

New participants in recent years have included key employees from Vanguard Group, Vertex Inc. and Lincoln Financial Group, joining long-time participants that include Main Line Health System, Aqua, Firstrust and Wells Fargo.

LML shares ideas about leadership, in large part through the context of successful nonprofit board service. It exposes participants to some of the top leaders who have helped shape the region. It makes them more aware of how communities and organizations along the Main Line and in Philadelphia operate. They build their networks while visiting many of the region’s most storied institutions.

You’ll find more information about the program, including pricing, dates and the application/reference forms at I’m excited to see the legacy of our sponsors, alumni and the volunteers who guide the program move into a new program year. It’s a legacy that delivers an eye-opening experience that connects participants with some of our region’s dynamic leaders and rising stars.
