A message to the Government Affairs Committee of The Main Line Chamber of Commerce and other parties with interest in our Government Affairs work:

Legislators, administration stepped up to pass transportation funding

We did it and now it’s time to celebrate the passage of a transportation funding package in Pennsylvania. We are turning our Red Carpet Dinner featuring Gov. Tom Corbett on Dec. 3 into a celebration of this shared accomplishment for our state. Tickets are available at

A broad coalition of leaders that supported the package has prevailed over views that would have allowed our ailing infrastructure to slip into a further state of ill repair. I give my thanks to everyone who influenced this issue by attending our Government Affairs events, placing letters-to-the-editor on the issue and by contacting your legislators. Earlier today, we issued this statement:

“The Main Line Chamber of Commerce and business leaders we work with throughout the region applaud the Pennsylvania legislature for approving a transportation funding bill in a bipartisan way that shows true leadership.

“We understand concerns about the additional costs to maintain roads, bridges and public transit being passed on to Pennsylvanians. Better maintaining our ailing transportation system is an essential investment if we are to strengthen our position as a region that attracts and retains jobs. We understand that some Democrats had to overcome worries about handing Gov. Corbett a victory on one of his major initiatives. We also believe firmly that the choice was clear for forward-thinking leaders who are looking out for the future of our economy.

“We would like to thank all legislators who stepped up on an issue that was for many a difficult decision. Doing what is right is not always easy, but together we have shown that business, labor and elected officials can work together to find compromise on an issue of major importance to our Commonwealth. We hope deeply to see more such cooperation in the future. This is a victory for the Administration of Gov. Corbett, but more importantly, it is a victory for all of Pennsylvania.”

Please join us on Dec. 3 and we will celebrate together.
