Main Line Chamber clarifies stay at home order for some business
Public health was understandably prioritized over economic concerns as Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf announced Monday a stay at home order through April 6 for the counties of Montgomery, Chester, Delaware, Philadelphia, Bucks, Monroe and Allegheny. As with previous government orders from the Administration, however, even with accompanying guidance, inconsistencies and confusion have been an issue for local businesses. In response to an inquiry by The Main Line Chamber of Commerce, the state Department of Community and Economic Development approved specific activities pertaining to going to a physical office.

When Gov. Wolf announced wide-sweeping government shutdowns that caused widespread confusion, we reached out for clarification and questioned some of the specifics. The creation of this COVID-19 Recovery Resources email newsletter occurred on the fly last week and will continue to evolve. We will draw attention to sources of aid for businesses, nonprofits and residents. As an organization focused on the importance of education and talent development, we have been pleased to provide links to resources to parents with children at home. Our Leadership Main Line program will continue on a modified schedule using virtual tools we are adopting with good success.

Senators balance paid sick leave with worries about impact on small business
The U.S. Senate is weighing a coronavirus virus relief package but the issue of paid sick leave has emerged as a sticking point for some lawmakers. The House of Representatives passed a relief package that includes paid sick leave for workers and President Donald Trump has said he supports it. Pennsylvania's two U.S. senators say they want to ensure workers who aren't getting paid get the help they need, but not at the cost of destroying “thousands of small businesses,” reports PennLive in the Harrisburg Patriot-News.

The Main Line Chamber of Commerce is making big strides this fall. On Thursday, September 26 we will award a female pioneer at The Philadelphia Country Club, on October 30, we will invite an innovator as our keynote speaker at the annual Red Carpet dinner, we will present a  growing series of fall events for our Talent and Education Network that connects employers with outstanding young job candidates plus our membership based networking events including Network at Noon, Business Card Exchanges and our Young Professionals events. Those are just a few things that are in store for this fall and we can't wait for you to be part of them.

Inspiration comes in all forms creating new and exciting ideas celebrated by those who got their hands dirty and put forward the thinking and problem solving for bettering the community.  At The Main Line Chamber of Commerce, we celebrate achievements yearly with the annual Celebration of Business Leadership, providing an exciting and unique forum that brings together the Main Line business community, family and friends to recognize and reward outstanding leadership and achievement.

 “Odds-beater” and a three-time Olympic gold medalist Coach Dawn Staley presented to a sold out audience with her coaching words "Once you're uncomfortable, growth is taking place", at The Main Line Chamber of Commerce 46th Annual Inspirational Breakfast. The Chamber will live by those words as we recognize not only local businesses for its achievements, but also the success of the graduating Leadership Main Line Class on Thursday, June 20. 

The advancement of technology has afforded us the resources to enhance learning and productivity, but it hasn't replaced the value and importance of face-to-face interactions. The Main Line Chamber of Commerce continues to show the power of in-person connection through its various channels including communications, social media and networking events. Celebrating its 10 year anniversary, the Society of Professional Women, a program of The Main Line Chamber of Commerce has distinguished itself by presenting  female business leaders in the community sharing their unique journeys. The latest edition of our newsletter showcases the extreme talent that SPW's mission stands for.  Helping to educate, prepare and empower each other to reach our full potential. 

Growth provides an opportunity to achieve goals, whether it is personal, professional or economical. These were some of the topics discussed at our annual Economic Forecast breakfast held at the Desmond featuring keynote speaker Labor Economist Mark Price.  The Chamber aims to strengthen these ideas among our growing organization of 950 + member companies. The Main Line Chamber of Commerce is wrapping up the 2018 year and as we do, we are excited about all the positive initiatives that have been created, not only by our organization, but by our members too.  We can't wait to see what 2019 brings.  Because of the companies and the people surrounding The Chamber, combined with our ability to connect around key issues affecting Greater Philadelphia and the Main Line,  we can only strengthen the community in which we love.  Check out this month's newsletter to learn more about our educational initiatives.

The Main Line Chamber of Commerce has expanded its leadership programs and professional development programs in recent years. We were proud to host Talent and Education Network last month when we made a special effort to attract diverse and nontraditional candidates from throughout the region to a Student-Employer Meetup held at St. Joseph’s University.  Check out this month's newsletter to learn more about our educational initiatives.

It’s clear that many companies on the Main Line are seeking a more diverse pool of applicants than they are seeing currently. That’s where we come in. In the four years since The Main Line Chamber of Commerce created its Talent and Education Network, and during two years of study prior to the 2015 launch, we have learned a lot about what employers want and don’t want from their recent college graduates. For the first time in the history of our Gold Leaf Celebration and 2018 Helena Devereux Women in Leadership Award on September 27 at the Philadelphia Country Club, we will be honoring TWO women who have expressed exemplary leadership in our community. The Main Line Chamber of Commerce is excited to showcase not only our best this fall and upcoming winter season, but the excellence that is happening among our members. Enabling members to succeed is what we pride ourselves on. We attribute our success to the incredible work our members do and because of that we are rolling out a "Members First" initiative this fall encouraging our members to work with each other and share their success stories. Recently, 100 chamber of commerce executives and volunteers from across the commonwealth sought to better understand the direction in which our state is moving in Harrisburg. We at the Chamber want to celebrate the excellent growth the main line is so proud of. Join us on June 21st for our annual Celebration of Leadership.
