Inspired, connected members make strong showings in early 16

On a fall day in the year 2000, Penn State football running back Adam Taliaferro suffered a devastating hit that paralyzed him from the neck down. His chances of ever walking again were slim.

But Adam didn’t let dire predictions keep him down.

He will be standing on his feet when he shares his compelling story of injury and recovery at the 43rd annual Inspirational Breakfast on May 4 at the historic Valley Forge Military Academy and College. He is now a successful business executive and member of the New Jersey General Assembly, as well as a memorable part of Penn State football history.

Adam Taliaferro’s compelling story is one example of the type of programming Main Line Chamber of Commerce members are enjoying in rooms that are literally filled with business people in the first half of 2016.

Earlier this year, Society of Professional Women attendees heard Best Selling Author Steve McClatchy describe how people are motivated by moving toward gain or avoiding pain. Under avoiding pain, we do things like follow the boss’ instructions or pay our taxes. But if we are moving toward gain, we are making time to create a new opportunity for ourselves to grow, or connect with someone who inspires us. Putting Steve’s concepts into practice brings inspiration.

We will draw attention to businesses and leaders that stand out from the crowd, through the Celebration of Business Leadership on June 23. We also soon will be seeking nominations for our Devereux Award for an outstanding woman business leader, who will be honored on Sept. 29 at our Gold Leaf Luncheon.

In addition to our big open events, the Chamber has more peer groups than ever in 2016 – enabling members to learn from and energize each other.

Here’s a reminder that every member, whether attending these events or not, helps to create these opportunities through their support.
