Helping companies increase their philanthropic impact

When The Main Line Chamber of Commerce set out to spur a conversation around corporate social responsibility this year, the response was overwhelming. The result was the creation of the first-ever Summit on Business Leadership and Corporate Volunteerism. We brought together 200 leaders from the worlds of business and nonprofits. We reflected on successes. We talked about why and how companies give back. We issued a challenge.

As I stated from the podium, we have the opportunity to bring The Main Line Chamber of Commerce business community more effectively to bear on the region's major issues, including improving education, training residents to fill available jobs, and sustaining arts and cultural offerings that make our region a great place in which to live and work.

Between now and our next philanthropy summit in 2017, we expect to do additional work with CSR think tank The Satell Institute and the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey’s Corporate Volunteer Council – both of which provide resources to our companies. We also will be looking at ways to measure and better understand the impact of corporate social responsibility initiatives in our region as we delve into the new body of work for The Chamber.

Next up for the Chamber is our annual Red Carpet Dinner, which is scheduled for Dec. 1 at the Hilton City Avenue in Philadelphia. QVC President and CEO Mike George will provide a keynote and the Keystone Boys Choir will perform. Already, we have 200 registrants and we anticipate a sold-out event. Please reserve your seat now.

The Main Line Chamber of Commerce is stronger than ever, thanks to the support of its nearly 1,000 members. Together, we will continue to connect with business, leadership development and talent.
