Announcing Business and CEO of the Year honorees

Posted by: Bernard Dagenais on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 2:00:00 pm

It was probably about 2008 when I first visited the sprawling campus of SEI Investments in Oaks. Two aspects that stood out were the incredible art collection belonging to CEO Al West that was on display throughout the buildings and the fact that work stations could be easily moved around to form different team configurations. The real surprise was seeing West himself at one of those portable desks in the middle of one of the main buildings. Other than a few large potted plants near his work station, his space was like that of any other.

Sitting down with West, who is also chairman and founder of the 3,300-employee company that provides institutional, private client and wealth management services to banks, trusts and individuals in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia, left an impression.
Main Line Chamber of Commerce members will get to learn more about the trajectory of this nearly 50-year-old company as SEI is named Business of the Year in the Large Business category at the June 22 Celebration of Business Leadership.

Another distinctive leader, LiquidHub CEO and co-founder Jonathan Brassington, will be this year’s CEO of the Year. His award puts the evolving culture of his fast-growing technology integration and services company in the spotlight.

All our awards this year are instructive, providing thought-provoking examples to other leaders. Some of the subplots include how do we lead our companies? How do we brand ourselves and our businesses? What innovative business ideas are taking off? And what constitutes community impact?

Special thanks to everyone who submitted nominations. Even those who didn’t win had great stories to tell and much to be proud of.

In addition to SEI and Brassington, we will be honoring:
• Petplan Pet Insurance as our Medium-Sized Business of the Year;
• 2120 Creative, which is being rebranded and is known to most of our members as Synergema as Small Business of the Year;
• City Avenue Special Services District as Nonprofit of the Year;
• And our F. Karl Schauffele Community Service Award this year is Senior Vice President of MassMutual Greater Philadelphia Bruce Sham, who cofounded a special needs program for children among other philanthropic pursuits.

We invite our members to sign up to attend for the Celebration of Business Leadership and to hear more about these stories. We will also be graduating our 2017 class of Leadership Main Line.

Special thanks to our sponsors Sabre Systems, Main Line Health, Meridian Bank, Benefits broker USI Affinity/My Benefit Adviser, Kaplin Stewart, Lincoln Financial Group, the Stephen DiOrio State Farm Agency, Stradley Ronon, UnitedHealthCare, Vanguard and KYW Newsradio. Leadership Main Line sponsors are Enterprise Holdings and Riley Riper Hollin & Colagreco.
