Flying with the Eagles, women leaders

The Main Line Chamber of Commerce’s focus on connecting with business, leadership development and talent will take the form of several opportunities to learn from and interact with peers in the final quarter of 2018. We are hosting a maximum-capacity class of 25 in our Leadership Principles & Profiles program and are planning a Student/Employer Meetup to occur with students from several local colleges in October.

In the middle of it all are three Signature Events that promise to be among the best of their kind, based on attendance, content and community support.

On Sept. 27, the 10th annual Helena Devereux Women in Leadership Award will be, for the first time, shared between two individuals: Valerie Arkoosh, the Democrat chairwoman of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, and Michelle Kichline, the Republican chairwoman of the Chester County Board of Commissioners.

The Chamber and its selection committee are sending the message that we value women of both parties in elected office, in keeping with the work of our Society of Professional Women, which advocates for more women in C-suites and boardrooms as well as in government. Both women are outstanding leaders who have worked across party lines for the good of their communities.

We also are excited about the Red Carpet Dinner, which will be held on Nov. 7 and feature Philadelphia Eagles’ President Don Smolenski. The Red Carpet Dinner is our biggest event of the year and we are pleased to be returning to the Drexelbrook Special Event Center this year. Smolenski will share his thoughts about the business surrounding the Eagles organization and the teamwork behind winning the coveted championship this year.

Our third Signature Event between now and year-end will be the Summit on Business Leadership & Corporate Volunteerism. Dalila Wilson-Scott, President of the Comcast Foundation, will provide introductory remarks. A panel discussion will be moderated by Stradley Ronon Chairman and renowned business leader Bill Sasso, featuring Aqua America President & CEO Christopher Franklin, SEI Cares Immediate Past President Martha Miele and Philadelphia Foundation President & CEO Pedro Ramos. The event will include the Main Line Gives Back Awards, which will be given out for the ninth time this year. The Summit provides a great place for companies to learn about Corporate Social Responsibility.

In the final event I will highlight here, our Talent and Education Network will bring together college students and employers from throughout the region to connect over internships and jobs at St. Joseph’s University on Oct. 20.

Please contact Bernie Dagenais or any member of the Chamber team or go to to find out more information about any of these outstanding opportunities.
