Community and unity were the central themes at the Inspirational Breakfast at the Valley Forge Military Academy & College as the Academy’s color guard marched in and the notes of the national anthem filled the room. The event marked the 51st year of this enduring tradition, hosted by the Main Line Chamber of Commerce.

Guest speaker Iron Chef Jose Garces inspired 200 business leaders with his personal journey of resilience and achievement, capped by the work of the Garces Foundation to uplift underserved immigrant populations in the hospitality industry. Noting that when you “live and work in a community, you should make it better,” Chef Garces touched upon his own experience growing up in an immigrant family as the impetus for his commitment to help others. Some other takeaways from his remarks:

  • Perseverance in personal and business life are critical to success. It takes discipline, hard work and passion to achieve goals.

  • Be present for the good - take notice of what’s around in that moment and enjoy it.

  • Be curious. A single moment of curiosity can spark a lifetime of love for a vocation.

  • If you fail, learn from it and try again.

  • Mentors can steer and support you in your journey, said Garces, thanking other established restaurateurs who had helped him along the way.

Presenting Sponsors Essential Utilities, Inc. CEO Christopher Franklin and Firstrust Bank EVP Mathew Hein both highlighted their organizations’ deep connection to their communities. Franklin called upon the “coalition of leaders” in the room to work together to make our communities stronger.

Speaking about service in leadership, Garrison Sergeant Major Bill Mott invited attendees to join a session of the Main Line Chamber’s Leadership Main Line, which provides leadership development through a lens of community involvement.

Businesses are invited to send aspiring leaders to attend this special opportunity on May 20th at the Valley Forge Military Academy and College. Attendees will meet the 2025 class of Leadership Main Line along with the institution’s President Col. Stuart Helgeson, USMCR (Ret.), and hear about leadership lessons and reflections from GSM Mott.

Early registration is available by clicking here through Oct. 10.

Thank you to all the sponsors who made this event possible, and to Garces Catering for providing a delicious breakfast.
