Messages of empowerment, inclusion, and equity were at the center of the Main Line Chamber’s uplifting Gold Leaf Celebration hosted at the Philadelphia Country Club last week, attended by 170 business leaders from the Greater Philadelphia region.

Accepting the 2024 Women in Leadership Award, Lincoln Financial and Lincoln Financial Foundation SVP and Chief Diversity Officer Allison Green Johnson shared LFG’s unwavering commitment to empowering women and other underserved communities, noting that “a rising tide lifts all boats,” and “when one of us improves, we all benefit.” In addition to being led by CEO Ellen Cooper, LFG has a robust representation of women – 45 percent – in leadership roles. Allison called on attendees to ensure that all our workplaces are inclusive and to take tangible and measurable actions to uphold equity. She also shared her seven points of leadership to create successful teams and a vibrant culture:

  1. Think big and communicate pragmatically
  2. Be bold, innovative and take risks
  3. Be transparent and encourage transparency
  4. Be—and serve as—an advocate
  5. Be decisive
  6. Balance both: hard truth and optimism
  7. Influence others through inclusion

As Presenting Sponsor Key Private Bank SVP and Market Leader for Eastern PA/Hudson Valley Rahwa Teklai noted while introducing Allison, the Gold Leaf event and the award “truly remind us of the impact we can make when we uplift and support each other.” Rahwa talked about the organization’s initiatives to advance DEI, saying that at Key Bank, “we believe in empowering women to succeed.”

Introducing the annual Gold Leaf Scholarship, which was awarded this year to Lincoln University senior Katia Ayala-Morales, Leadership Sponsor Independence Blue Cross SVP and National Market President Joe Geist shared that IBX “fosters an environment every single day where women can lead and succeed,” adding that half of the officers at the company were women, well above the national average.

Chamber President and CEO Bernard Dagenais noted that “helping people succeed is at the core of the chamber’s work,” outlining programs that are cultivating diverse talent and leadership in the region, including The Society of Professional Women, the Talent and Education Network, Leadership Principles & Profiles, and Leadership Main Line, which is currently recruiting its 2025 cohort and adding that our society is better off “when we encourage all talent, not just by words but by action.”
